Rita Ashley

Many will have heard already of the sad and unexpected death of Rita Ashley in the early hours of Wednesday 13th March. Rita gave so much to the life of St Andrew's over many years, and in many different ways, and will be so deeply missed by us all. Please remember her family in your prayers, and let us also support one another in our bereavement. Funeral details will be announced as soon as they are known.

Dot Poole

We mourn the sad and sudden passing of Dot Poole, member of St Andrew's. We will hold a Requiem Mass for Dot at St Andrew's later this month - details to follow shortly.

Comic Relief Cakes

Thank you to everyone for the donations and cake sales for Comic Relief. We made £52.00.

Lent Course

The Lent Course on "The Bible Rediscovered" continues this week: Tuesday, 7.30pm at 15, Inglewood Drive and Wednesday 10.30am at St Barnabas'. All welcome; please take a yellow flier for more information.

Stations of the Cross

Do remember that Stations of the Cross takes place every Friday during Lent, 7pm, at St Andrew's. A wonderful and profound service where we walk in Jesus' footsteps and reflect on his journey from his trial to his burial. All welcome.

BBC Radio Stoke Broadcast

The second broadcast of "In Praise of God" from St Andrew's will take place on Sunday 24th March, 6.30am and 2.30pm.

Mothering Sunday Flowers

We will be arranging the posies on Friday 29th March at 1.15pm. If anyone can spare an hour to help please meet in St. Andrew’s Church.

Meal and Quiz

On Saturday 30th March there will be a meal and quiz at Ann's house, 15 Inglewood Drive at 6.30pm. Please sign the list at the back of St. Andrew's Church, the menu is chicken stuffed and wrapped in bacon with vegetables or a vegetarian option followed by chocolate brownie with raspberries and tea/coffee. The cost is £10, please bring your own drinks.

Annual Church Meetings

Annual church meetings will take place on April 7th (St Andrew's) and April 28th (St Barnabas'), on both occasions after the morning service. These are important dates on which we celebrate the past year, and look forward to the coming year, so please do attend if at all possible. These are also the times when we elect churchwardens and members of the Parochial Church Council. Please consider standing for one of these positions, as a way of contributing to the life of our churches. For more information about what it involves, please speak to Fr Chris or anyone who currently serves in this way. Thank you.

Electoral Roll

2019 is the year when the entire Electoral Roll is renewed for each of our churches. Being on the Electoral Roll says three things: 1) I belong - this is my church, and I am part of the family; 2) I serve - I have a part to play in the life of my church, including voting at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting; 3) I support - I share the values of my church and what we are trying to achieve together in this community and in the world. If you are currently on the Electoral Roll, you will soon receive a letter inviting you to remain; if you are not currently on the Electoral Roll, but consider St Barnabas / St Andrew's to be your church, and are at least 16 years old, please speak to Cynthia Ankers (St Barnabas') or Gayle Hilton (St Andrew's) to get an application form. Thank you.

Heritage Lottery Celebration Event

The Heritage Lottery Fund provided the bulk of the grant to restore the Porthill WW1 War Memorial at St Andrew's. This was one grant amongst many given to projects in Newcastle. We have been invited to a celebration event which will take place on Tuesday 9th April, 1pm, at Belong Heritage Gallery in Newcastle. Please let Fr Chris know if you would like to go and need transport.

Young People's Group

We are looking to start a new group for the young people of our two churches which would meet on a Sunday afternoon/evening once a month. This would be a joint enterprise for our parishes, to support our young people and their faith journeys. We are looking for two or three people who would be willing to work with the clergy on this; if you feel this may be something that God is calling you to, please speak to Fr Chris.

Bingo at “Barnies”

Bingo sessions are held at St Barnabas’ every Tuesday afternoon between 1.30pm and 3.15pm. The cost is £1 entrance which includes refreshments and a raffle plus a cost of £1 per book of 6 games. Why not come along and enjoy a game of “singalong” bingo with us! We will make you very welcome. Hope to see you soon.

2019 Sanctuary Donations

The 2019 Sanctuary Donations book is now ready. Would those who would like their loved ones remembered at either the date of their death, or birthday or any other special anniversary please record their names etc., against the nearest Sunday to that date. The donation towards the Sanctuary Lamp should be given to the Treasurer Kerry Parsons.

Reading Glasses Collection

We are collecting old reading glasses for a charity, India eye train. It provides glasses for the elderly and poor. It doesn’t matter what condition they are in as they are fixed  before being sent out. Any glasses that you would like to donate can be given to Lynn Kearns at St Andrew’s.

Those who birthdays fall this week:
Arthur Webb (15th), Amber Rose Thornton (20th), Danielle Hammond (21st)
